Lightning during the Grímsvötn volcanic eruption in November 2004

Lightning strikes were quite frequent during the first 36 hours of the Grímsvötn sub-glacial volcanic eruption.

Figure 1 shows located lightning of the UK Met Office's ATD sferics system during the first 36 hours of the eruption.
Figure 2 shows the time of the lightnings and their current in kA as measured by the Syðri-Neslönd LLP ligthtning direction finder station.

Figure 3 shows the altitude of the top of the volcanic plume as measured by our weather radar which is located at Keflavik-Airport at a distance of 260 km.
