Tími: 02. ágú. 2023, 17:29

Litakóði:  Appelsínugulur

Númer eldfjalls: 371032

Virkniyfirlit:
The minor effusive eruption which commenced on 10 July has been declining over the past few days. The data collected by colleagues at the University of Iceland, the Icelandic Institute of Natural History and the National Land Survey of Iceland on 31 July show an extrusion rate of about 5 m3/s for the period 23-31 July, which is almost half of what was measured the previous time. The GPS data indicates signs of deflation at depth which probably coincides with the deep source feeding the eruption. The overall dataset confirms that the eruption is slowly decreasing, and it might possibly come to an end in the coming days/weeks.

Hæð gosmökkvar:
The gas plume height has been within 1-2 km asl as assessed by calibrated cameras most of the time, and it exceeded 2.5 km on 1 August.

Aðrar upplýsingar um gosmökk:
Today a very thin and faint plume is hardly detectable by eye.

Nánar um vá:
Lava flows, gas pollution, grass and moss fires continue being the main hazards posed by the current eruption on a local scale.
