Virkniyfirlit:
The activity in the Reykjanes-Svartsengi volcanic system continues to evolve rapidly. Significant changes occurred yesterday evening in the seismic activity measured near Sundhnjúkagígar ~3.5 km NNE north of Grindavík. The latest observations and assessments indicate that a magma intrusion extends from Stóra-Skógsfell, located ~6 km NNE of Grindavík, beneath Grindavík, and offshore. Since midnight, around 800 earthquakes have been measured in the region where the magma intrusion is occurring. The eruption color code remains at orange for the increased likelihood of an eruption.

Hæð gosmökkvar:
No eruption ongoing.

Aðrar upplýsingar um gosmökk:

Nánar um vá:
The assessment now is that an eruption, if it were to occur, will originate from the northern side of the magma intrusion. This means that there is a greater likelihood of an eruption beginning close to Sundhnjúkagígur resulting in an effusive eruption on land. However, since the dike intrusion is extending south of Grindavík beneath the sea, an explosive eruption cannot be excluded, although it seems unlikely. An explosive eruption would produce ash and, in the worst case, it could produce an ash cloud up to 15 km a.s.l.
